 Learn to make yarn/string from waste material, e.g.plastic bags, old  T-shirts, bed linen and other fabrics. Fom these participants will make a bag, basket and/or sculptural form.


Waste is a valuable resource and in this workshop participants will make yarn/string from waste material (plastic bags, old T-shirts, bed linen, other

fabrics) and turn it into a vessel or sculptural form. We will be using traditional techniques like knitting, crochet, weaving, looping and twining, depending on the participants prior experience.

This workshop encourages experimentation with everyday waste materials using traditional techniques. No prior experience is required.


 Helle Jorgensen is an artist and educator who encourages curiosity and experimentation. With an early back background in science and horticulture her practice attempts to blur the boundaries between Art and Science. Her major focus is on the investigation, collection and arrangement of materials.



She has a Bachelor of Science (Biology), a Diploma of Horticulture and later in life studied Fine art TAFE and drawing at Julian Ashton Art School. She has had solo shows in Sydney, Adelaide and in 2013 at the Tweed River Art Gallery, Murwillumbah. She has been in many group shows nationally and internationally, including New York, Los Angeles, Washington and London. Herwork has been published in many books and international journals.


What to bring :  

Any, all or none of the following: Scissors, knitting needles, crochet hooks, knitting looms, knitting nancies and tapestry needles. Helle will also have all tools required.

 Any of the following: Supermarket plastic bags, old bed linen, old T-shirts and/or other old clothes.
