Childrens Workshops

All the childrens workshops are free. Bookings are recommended. Times vary according to workshop.

River sculpture- Claudia Borbas

This workshop is aimed at inspiring children to use their imagination by focusing on the senses of sight, sound, touch and smell, stimulated by the outdoors in a bush setting by a creek.   The children will be encouraged to construct sculptures that they can enjoy designing and building together from natural and man-made materials in a fun, friendly and relaxed way while appreciating the natural environment.

Children will get a feel of the environment through discussion with a focus on the senses – sight, sound, smell and touch. Some man-made materials and natural materials will be provided to help stimulate ideas for children to design sculptures that incorporate a collage of materials. They will also be able to collect some rocks, pebbles, sticks and leaves within a defined boundary of the creek. The sculptures will be of a non-permanent nature. There will also be suggestion of bringing their sculptures to life in some way, ie. by designing animals, or putting faces on their creations.  They will need a hat, sunscreen, footwear, and a water bottle. There will be 4 one-hour workshops to choose from.

Claudia Borbas has been a Primary School Teacher for many years. She specializes in Music, Dance and Art. She has participated in numerous workshops and courses in these areas in different parts of Australia throughout her life. Kids Fingerknit Sculpture and Felted Pom Poms

This workshop is a spin off from the Yarnbombing Doughty Project that will be installed at Doughty Park in North Tamborine on the first weekend in May.  I begin my workshop with movement and stretching and maybe even a run around the olive grove with the kids to burn off any frenetic energy.

Then we will get our hands wet nd soapy making felted balls and while they are drying we will fingerknit using a song to learn the steps.  This ca be quite meditative and nice, once they get the hang of it some kids are really hooked.  Cheap holiday entertainment.

When we have a nice long length a 3D sculpture is created using hooking methods or sewing.  A bit of everything in this one!
